“QUEREMOS PROFUNDIZAR EN EL TEMA DE GESTIÓN DE AGUA EN LA MINERÍA”

We talked with Antje Wandelt, General Director of the Peruvian-German Chamber of Commerce about the German participation in PERUMIN 33 Mining Convention.

Germany has been preparing a new proposal to successfully participate at PERUMIN 33 Mining Convention. The German delegation will not only have presence at the Mining Technological Fair (EXTEMIN), but in other activities, such as the International Meeting, where they will share their experience in mining.

This was informed by Antje Wandelt, General Director of the Peruvian-German Chamber of Commerce, who explained their focus for this event that will be held from September 18 through 22, at the campus of the National University of San Agustín.

What is the preliminary information from Germany about its participation at PERUMIN 33 Mining Convention?

We have finished the registration of the companies that will participate in the International Pavilion, the spaces are already assigned. We will be there again in this great event with a strong presence.

How many German companies will participate of the Technological Fair - EXTEMIN?

In the last edition, between the International Pavilion and others we were more than 50 companies. I think this year we will reach the same number or a little bit more. Peru is more and more an attractive place for German suppliers, thanks to the development of its sector and competitiveness compared to other ore producers. And, there is a lot of demand and challenges in the technological sector to optimize their processes and make them more competitive and sustainable.

Then, German companies this year will not present a forum, like in the prior edition, but a technical seminar.

Indeed. The forum is a meeting we organize on a regular basis. The next will be done in Germany, but in 2017 we will organize a technical seminar with the participation of high-level guests. In 2015, the Peruvian-German Mining and Raw Materials Forum had a much more global approach were our proposals were established to go in depth regarding our relationship with Peru; however, this time we would like to address more specific topics and more concrete proposals.

What are the topics that will be addressed by this technical seminar that will be held within the framework of the International Meeting?

We would like to go in depth about water management in mining, together with tailings treatment and everything related to the mining logistical transportation where we had very interesting proposals.

In 2014, Peru and Germany signed an agreement on raw materials. What have been the other approaches regarding the mining sector?

In 2016, the first inter-governmental work meeting was held. Then, we defined the specific topics to be developed. During the second forum, held in October 2016 with the participation of high-level executives and representatives from the German Government, we defined some projects, such as those with Ingemmet, which are at a good pace. For this year, we are also expecting the arrival of experts to deal with water management in mining, among other topics. We will progress little by little.

What is the role balance of the Peruvian-German Center for Mining Businesses created in 2015?

The center plays an integrating role between Peru and Germany for companies and institutions of both countries. We have achieved a good place in front of them, who are taking more and more advantage of our center. We are currently organizing meetings for our members in Peru and we consider that this center is complying with its part.

What do German companies offer to the Peruvian mining sector?

Well, Germany is more than an investor in Peru, it is a supplier of technological solutions. Most companies are distribution centers for technical solutions for mining, but we also have investors in the service sector, such as the support of the company in process incorporation, training and others.

It is very important for us due to its great contribution of knowledge through its different high-level meetings and lectures and because it gathers the entire mining sector in a single place. It is the opportunity to strengthen the relationship with our partners and to set new relations with customers, suppliers and research centers. In addition, because it is held in Arequipa, not only Peru´s identity is conveyed but the one of the industry. Many take the opportunity to visit their customers these days during the fair.
